Kathmandu: On the occasion of National Democracy Day, Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has called for moving toward the building of a prosperous Nepal while protecting democratic achievements.
Issuing a message of best wishes on Thursday, he remembered Falgun 7 as a glorious day when Nepal's modern history began under the leadership of the Nepali Congress. Mentioning that the People's Revolution of 2007 ended the 104-year-old autocratic Rana regime and established democracy in the country, he stated that the day paved the way for economic, social, cultural, and educational transformation alongside political change.
"Falgun 7—the glorious day when Nepal’s modern history began under the leadership of the Nepali Congress. On the occasion of this proud day, when the historic People’s Revolution of 2007 BS ended the 104-year-long autocratic Rana rule and established democracy in the country, I express my heartfelt best wishes to all Nepali sisters and brothers," Thapa said through the message.
He mentioned that Nepal took a courageous step toward a modern democratic journey from a medieval feudal structure through this movement, noting that democracy built the foundation for strengthened nationality, civil rights, and public participation.
Thapa expressed the view that the revolution of 2046 is the mother of Nepal's political journey, which progressed through the People's Movement of 2046 BS and the 2062/63 BS movement toward federalism and a republic.
"The revolution of Falgun 7 is the mother of the journey toward the dream of prosperity, the foundation of inclusiveness, the interdependent relationship between nationality and democracy, and through the changes of 2046 BS and the 2062/63 BS movement, toward federalism and the republic," the message stated.
Remembering the sacrifices made by martyrs in various struggles and movements for national independence, civil rights, and democracy, he expressed the belief that true respect for the martyrs can only be achieved by protecting the constitution, ensuring the institutional stability of the federal democratic republic, and achieving economic prosperity.
