Nepali Congress Appoints New Chief Whip and Whip
Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress is preparing to appoint Basana Thapa as the chief whip of its parliamentary party and Nishkal Rai as the whip. A task force led by Bishwa Prakash Sharma reached a consensus on the names of Thapa, who was elected from Dailekh-1, and Rai, a 35-year-old lawmaker elected from Ilam-1. President Gagan Thapa presented this proposal during the performance committee meeting on Monday.
Although the meeting has not officially announced the decision, their selection is considered certain as the final authority to appoint the chief whip and whip rests with the leader of the parliamentary party according to the statute. By giving important responsibilities to newcomers and young faces, the Congress appears to be seeking a fresh approach in its parliamentary role.
