Kathmandu Metropolitan Acting Mayor Departs for Cannes Film Festival
Kathmandu. Sunita Dangol, the Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, departed for France on Sunday to participate in the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. She went to attend the festival at the invitation of the Mayor of Cannes, David Lisnard. She is scheduled to return home on the 8th after participating in various sessions of the festival.
Both Cannes and Kathmandu are member cities of UNESCO's 'Creative Cities' network under the film category. The invitation letter sent by the Mayor of Cannes to Acting Mayor Dangol states, "The festival is an opportunity to bring Creative Cities together. It will make it easier to learn about the audio-visual content chain that will be conducted under the title 'On-Air' at the festival."
This year, the film Elephant in the Fog by Abinash Bikram Shah from Nepal is being screened at the festival.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City was selected as a member city of the Creative Cities Network in the film category by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Kartik 14, 2080 BS. This year, the names of 55 cities worldwide were announced as additions to various categories of creative cities.
At that time, 26 cities around the world, including Kathmandu Metropolitan City, became members under the film category. The global network of creative cities includes 400 cities from more than 100 countries. Membership in the creative industries is granted in categories including film, music, design, crafts and folk art, literature, gastronomy, and media arts.
