UML Speeds Up Candidate Recommendations for Upcoming Elections

Kathmandu. The CPN (UML) has intensified the process of recommending candidates across the country for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.

Following instructions from the party headquarters, district and regional committees are currently recommending names. Some districts have sent a single name, while others have recommended multiple aspirants. Some districts have even forwarded the names of all interested candidates to the center.

According to UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet, single names have already been recommended for 24 constituencies so far. These include:

  1. KP Sharma Oli – Jhapa-5
  2. Bishnu Paudel – Rupandehi-2
  3. Shankar Pokhrel – Dang-2
  4. Lekhraj Bhatta – Kailali-4
  5. Mahesh Basnet – Bhaktapur-2
  6. Pradeep Gyawali – Gulmi-1
  7. Ishwar Pokhrel – Kathmandu-5
  8. Lilanath Shrestha – Siraha-3
  9. Ajay Gupta – Rautahat-1
  10. Hari Upreti – Sarlahi-3
  11. Tilak Mahat – Nawalpur-2
  12. Milan Gurung – Gorkha-2
  13. Badri Mainali – Nuwakot-1
  14. Surya Dhakal – Banke-1
  15. Dal Bahadur Sunar – Banke-3
  16. Bishram Chaudhary – Kapilvastu-1
  17. Suhang Nembang – Ilam-2
  18. Laxmi Mahato Koiri – Mahottari-1
  19. Dhruva Shahi – Surkhet-1
  20. Kaladhar Devkota – Surkhet-2
  21. Gulab Jung Shah – Salyan
  22. Maniram Phuyal – Kathmandu-2 (Proposed)
  23. Damodar Bhandari – Baitadi
  24. Ganesh Thagunna – Darchula

Other constituencies and districts have also selected single names unanimously, while the selection process is still ongoing in some places. 

The UML stated that the party center will make the final decision on candidates once all recommendations from the districts and constituencies reach the headquarters.
