NC MP Niskal Rai Dissatisfied Over Slow Ilam Reconstruction Budget

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Niskal Rai has expressed dissatisfaction, saying that the government has allocated a very low budget for the reconstruction of the destructive floods and landslides that occurred in Ilam last year.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, he drew the government's attention to immediately start preparations as another disaster season is about to begin.

He expressed his unhappiness over the slow pace of reconstruction work and the low budget, noting that while the estimated cost is more than 11 arba 81 crore rupees, the government has allocated only 5 crore 30 lakh rupees.

He said, "It is estimated that more than 11 arba 81 crore rupees will be needed for post-disaster reconstruction and rehabilitation. However, the government has so far allocated only 5 crore 30 lakh rupees. Apart from that allocated amount, there is no information about how much progress has been made so far.

Now, the disaster season is starting again. I strongly demand that the government immediately push forward the work for safe housing for the displaced people and disaster preparedness."
