Bhattarai's Five-Point Agenda for Reinstated Parliament and Government

Kathmandu. Yogesh Bhattarai, Secretary of the CPN (UML), has supported his party's decision that the dissolved House of Representatives should be reinstated, and has announced five conditions for it.

Following the UML's stand in favour of the reinstatement of parliament, Secretary Bhattarai made his conditions public through social media regarding the agenda that the reinstated parliament and the forming government must fulfil.

The 5 main conditions set by Yogesh Bhattarai:

  • Exclusion of Former Prime Ministers: Former Prime Ministers will not be appointed as Prime Minister again from the reinstated House of Representatives.
  • 'Gen Z' inclusive government: A government will be formed with the participation of all-party and 'Gen Z' (youth) representatives.
  • Constitutional Amendment by Consensus: The reinstated House of Representatives will amend the constitution on the basis of consensus, in line with the demands and spirit of the 'Gen Z movement'.
  • 'One Nation, One Election': The 'One Nation, One Election' system will be implemented by holding elections for the federal, provincial, and local levels within a maximum of eight months.
  • Special Resolution on Corruption Control: A special resolution will be passed with a concrete commitment to good governance and corruption control, along with making legal provisions.

The UML has deemed the dissolution of the House of Representatives "unconstitutional and undemocratic." The party has already decided to struggle through both the court and the street for the reinstatement of parliament against the dissolution.
