Indian Musical Icon Asha Bhosle Passes Away at 92

Kathmandu. Renowned and versatile playback singer of the Indian music world, Asha Bhosle, passed away on Sunday at the age of 92. With a musical journey spanning eight decades that took Indian cinema and music to new heights, her passing marks the end of an era in the field of music.

Dr. Pratit Samdani of Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai confirmed her death. According to Dr. Samdani, she died due to multi-organ failure. She was admitted to the hospital on Saturday evening after experiencing extreme fatigue and a chest infection. Her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, had previously informed via social media that her grandmother was hospitalized and requested respect for the family's privacy.

A Musical Legacy of Eight Decades

Born in 1933, Asha Bhosle began her musical journey at a young age. Rising to prominence in the 1950s, she became one of the world's most respected playback singers. Her playful, soulful, and adaptable voice won the hearts of music lovers across many generations. Throughout her extraordinary career, Bhosle recorded thousands of songs in various Indian languages. She had mastery over everything from classical music, ghazals, cabaret, and pop to folk music. Her collaboration with leading composers and filmmakers resulted in numerous memorable songs in Hindi cinema.

Honors and Achievements

In recognition of her contribution, the Government of India honored her with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian honor. In 2011, Guinness World Records officially recognized her as the most recorded artist in music history.

Her songs such as "Dil Cheez Kya Hai," "Piya Tu Ab To Aaja," "Mera Kuch Samaan," and "Chura Liya Hai Tumne" remain equally popular today.
