Annual “Shree Chokate Narayan Jatra” Concludes in Hadigaun
Kathmandu – The famous Shree Chokate Narayan Jatra, held annually in Hadigaun, was celebrated this year as well.
This traditional festival has been observed since the Lichhavi period. Locally, it is also known as “Gan Na Maru Jatra” or “The Unseen Jatra in Hadigaun.”
During the festival, devotees performed rituals for Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshwar, and Satyanarayan, and took part in the procession of the chariot.
The festival is distinguished by the placement of the deity’s idol on the top of the chariot, decoration with unique flowers not seen elsewhere, and a three-tiered roof on the chariot.
Additionally, as the finial (gajur) of the chariot is turned downward, the roof is spun and paraded around the neighborhood during the festival.
These unique traditions and local features make Hadigaun’s jatra distinct and special compared to other festivals.
