Annual Report of the Office of the Attorney General Submitted to the President
Kathmandu, 21 Poush: The annual report of the Office of the Attorney General for the fiscal year 2081/82 has been submitted to President Ram Chandra Paudel. Attorney General Sabita Bhandari presented the report to President Paudel during a program organized at the President's residence, Shital Niwas, today.
The annual report states that out of the cases and petitions filed by the government attorney's office in various courts, 75,165 cases were settled. Among these settled cases, the success rate in favor of the government is 66.34 percent.
In this fiscal year, 59,355 offenses related to cases where the Government of Nepal is the plaintiff were registered across investigation agencies nationwide. The government attorney's office decided to file cases against 66,382 individuals in 42,109 cases.
The report also mentions that it was decided not to file cases against 4,841 individuals in 4,547 cases. Similarly, settlement orders were issued for 2,612 cases involving 3,075 defendants through the Office of the Attorney General and its subordinate offices. During this period, legal opinions were requested on 52 matters, and opinions were provided on 47 of them.
The total number of cases and petitions defended or argued by the Office of the Attorney General and its subordinate offices in court reached 127,409. This includes 105,036 cases where the government is the plaintiff, 16,514 writ petitions filed against the government, and 5,859 other petitions. This total number is 3.90 percent lower than the previous fiscal year.
According to Article 159, Sub-article (1) of the Constitution of Nepal, the Attorney General must prepare an annual report of the work performed under the Constitution and federal law and submit it to the President every year.
