53 Organizations Warn Government to Reverse Embossed Number Plate Decision

Kathmandu – 53 major organizations have jointly issued a press statement urging the government to reverse its recent decision to make English-only embossed number plates mandatory for vehicles.
The organizations expressed concern that the unilateral decision was made without consulting citizens, cultural, and literary groups. According to them, removing Nepali letters from vehicle plates disrespects the Constitution, official government notifications, and the sentiments of the Nepali people.
The statement urged the government to immediately rectify the decision and ensure Nepali letters are used respectfully on all vehicle number plates. They also warned that the government would be fully responsible for any consequences arising from failing to reverse the policy.
