Nepal Observes World Meditation Day on December 21

Kathmandu, Dec 21: In accordance with the United Nations' proclamation, "World Meditation Day" is being observed today. The UN General Assembly officially designated December 21 as World Meditation Day, and Nepal is joining the global community in celebrating this occasion. The UN General Assembly has recognized yoga and meditation as complementary practices for holistic health.

On December 7 of last year, the United Nations officially granted recognition to December 21 as World Meditation Day. That same year, the first official celebration was organized by the government at Tundikhel. This year as well, the day is being marked under government leadership.

Experts and practitioners in the field have emphasized the vision of developing Nepal as the "Meditation Capital of the World." This recognition by the UN comes after eleven years of continuous effort.

The proposal was first introduced in 2014. On December 7 last year, the UN General Assembly passed the proposal submitted by 18 countries, including Nepal, leading to the formal commencement of this global celebration.

To mark the occasion, the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology organized a program at the Sainik Manch in Tundikhel this morning.

Similarly, an interaction session followed by mass meditation is scheduled at Brahmananda Saraswati Gram, located in Bosan, Dakshinkali Municipality-1. Various other stakeholders are also hosting programs across the country today to celebrate the day.
