Women Honored at Teej Special Recognition Program
Kathmandu - A joint initiative of Upama Sanchar Pvt. Ltd. and Tej Nepal Multimedia Pvt. Ltd., the “Teej Special Women’s Honor and Cultural Program 2082” was successfully held at the Film Development Board in Kathmandu. The event honored women who have made significant contributions in cinema, music, art, literature, education, sports, politics, business, and social service.
Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Balram Adhikari, Member of Parliament Manrupa Sharma ‘Bimala,’ and Upama Sanchar Chairperson Asha Gautam presented the honors to the recipients.
Veteran singer Gyanu Rana, renowned actresses Mithila Sharma, Laxmi Giri, and Rama Thapaliya were felicitated with the “Teej Special Lifetime Women’s Honor.” Similarly, singers Sarita Bharti, Sharmila Gurung, Laxmi Nyaupane, and actresses Hiunwala Gautam, Sunita Gurung, and Palpsa Dangol received the “Teej Special Women’s Honor.”
Other honorees included singers Pabitra Rasaili, Maya Nirasi, Pushpa Paudel; journalists Mina Bajracharya, Bhasha Sharma, Poonam Paudel, Pratima Saiju, Gita Adhikari, and Sirjana Khatriwada; former police inspector and engineer Jalu Gurung; artist and first female president of the National Folk Cultural Federation of Nepal Bhumika Subba; former police sub-inspector and dancer Kalpana Gurung; Nepal’s first female wrestler Bhagwati Khadka; wrestler Muna Shrestha; and entrepreneur Manju Timilsina, among others.
On the occasion, newly appointed members of the Film Development Board — Samppan Shrestha, Bhima Mainali, Kuber Giri, Birendra Prasad Bhatt, Santosh Lohani, and Ganesh Prasad Subedi — were congratulated and presented with letters of appreciation.
Speaking on behalf of the honorees, actress Mithila Sharma expressed gratitude, stating that such honors always serve as encouragement. Veteran singer Gyanu Rana entertained the audience with her famous song “Sirima Sirini Kanchi.”
Minister Balram Adhikari remarked that it was a matter of pride to honor distinguished women from various sectors, while MP Manrupa Sharma emphasized the importance of continuing such programs in the future.
Tej Nepal Multimedia Chairperson Suman Kumar Shrestha, in his welcome address, linked the Teej festival to women’s empowerment and cultural preservation, adding that such programs create a positive impact in society. The event was facilitated by Upama Sanchar Secretary Dhiraj Koirala.
