Traffic Awareness Campaign in Kathmandu Benefits Nearly 20,000 Road Users

Kathmandu – On the second day of the “Accident Reduction Special Campaign and Traffic Week 2082,” extensive awareness programs were conducted across the Kathmandu Valley yesterday. The campaign benefited a total of 19,923 road users.

The Traffic Police targeted passengers, pedestrians, and drivers to raise awareness about safe zebra crossing, sky bridges, and subways. During the program, 5,301 passengers and pedestrians were trained to cross roads safely, according to the Traffic Police Office.

The program also included a one-day eye health check-up for 319 drivers, interactive tea sessions with 211 drivers/conductors, accident reduction training for 42 tipper drivers, and deployment of 83 traffic volunteers.

Additionally, two-minute awareness programs were conducted with 4,835 drivers and conductors, while special awareness sessions were provided to 2,234 two-wheeler and 2,937 four-wheeler drivers. Nighttime awareness reached 2,808 individuals.

To further enhance road safety, street furniture was cleaned at 270 locations, 135 vehicles were given pick-and-drop management guidance, 10,610 people received leaflets and pamphlets, and 4,514 traffic awareness stickers were placed.

According to the office spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Suvedi, the Traffic Week is being conducted with the goal of fostering a culture of safe roads and minimizing loss of life and property, emphasizing that even small negligence can lead to major accidents.
