Security Heightened in Chitwan National Park Ahead of Election
Kathmandu. As the 2082 House of Representatives election approaches, Chitwan National Park has increased security vigilance, prioritizing wildlife conservation alongside tourist safety.
Security measures have been tightened to prevent unwanted activities and provide a safe environment for tourists, as the movement of new people around the park is expected to increase due to the election.
According to the park administration, a special patrolling and monitoring system has been activated, taking into account the risk that security personnel's attention could be diverted elsewhere during the election period. Security presence has been added to safari, jungle walk, boating, and hotel-lodge areas.
According to Information Officer Avinash Thapa Magar, arrangements have been made to ensure that domestic and foreign tourists visiting Chitwan do not feel any discomfort amidst the election atmosphere. He stated that since tourism is the identity of Chitwan, they are working to balance both conservation and tourism.
In collaboration with the Nepalese Army, park security personnel, and the local community, regular patrolling has been increased in the core areas, buffer zones, and tourist routes. Staff have been deployed across the 952.63 square kilometer park, keeping 22 buffer zone consumer committees, 57 permanent posts, and 3 temporary posts on 'high alert.'
Local tourism entrepreneurs are also optimistic that tourist confidence will be maintained with the increased security vigilance. Amidst the election bustle, Chitwan National Park has prioritized efforts to continue safe, responsible, and sustainable tourism.
