Public Health Worker Promotes Nature Protection by Riding a Bicycle Backwards

Janakpur: "Eras may lose, but youth must not fail; strengthen your shoulders to carry the weight of the motherland." Singing these lyrics, Jibanath Pokharel has captured everyone's attention at Ramananda Chowk, the main entrance of Janakpurdham, by riding a bicycle backwards.

Watching him ride a two-wheeler backwards without using handlebars, some people pull out their phones to take photos, while others stop to take selfies with him. Popularly known as J.B.

Pokharel, this backward-cyclist is a healthcare professional from Bardibas-1, Mahottari. He currently serves as the Public Health Director under the Bardibas Municipality. On his days off, he rides his bicycle backwards to spread messages about environmental conservation.

Pokharel gained significant fame in (2063 BS) when he traveled from Mechi to Mahakali riding backwards. While his bicycle had handlebars back then, he now performs the feat without using them at all.

He shared that he has been riding backwards for nearly 20 years. His current goal is to protect nature and inspire young people to stay in Nepal to do creative and productive work. He recently rode his bicycle in Kathmandu and is now preparing to head to Pokhara.

Pokharel claims he can ride a bicycle backwards for 100 kilometers continuously. He also mentioned that he plans to attempt a Guinness World Record in the future.

He encourages everyone to use bicycles and join efforts to protect the environment. He also advises young people planning to go abroad that there are plenty of opportunities in Nepal if they are willing to do something unique and creative at home.
