NRNA Delegation Meets Prime Minister and Senior Ministers, Commits to Support Reconstruction

Kathmandu – A delegation of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) held a joint meeting with Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal, and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising.

During the meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Thursday, the NRNA team extended congratulations and best wishes to the interim government and also submitted a memorandum covering various issues.

In the discussions, NRNA President Mahesh Kumar Shrestha informed that the association was currently working on the reconstruction of the traffic police control room damaged during recent demonstrations and was in further discussions on what additional support could be provided.

Prime Minister Karki highlighted the important role of NRNs in the development of the country and urged Nepalis across the world to assist in Nepal’s reconstruction during this difficult time. She also expressed the government’s readiness to cooperate with the association.

Similarly, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising stated that government and private infrastructures had been destroyed during the protest called by Gen Z on September 8–9. He mentioned the urgent need for a printing machine for driver’s licenses and requested NRNA’s support. President Shrestha said the matter would be decided in the upcoming executive committee meeting.

Former NRNA President and Coordinator of the High-Level Committee, Dr. Shesh Ghale, expressed commitment that if the government required any project support, the MIT Foundation under his leadership was ready to assist.

Former NRNA President Kul Acharya called for the implementation of non-resident Nepali citizenship and suggested mobilizing the Social Security Fund’s resources in national development. Expressing sorrow over the recent loss of lives and property in Nepal, he stated that NRNs worldwide were eager to extend their hands in reconstruction.

Likewise, former NRNA President R.K. Sharma raised issues of non-resident Nepali citizenship, utilization of the Social Security Fund, and collective investment by channeling remittances into savings. He also urged the government to address the problems faced by Nepali migrant workers.

During the meeting, NRNA leaders also requested assurances from the government regarding the security of private property and investments of NRNs and the private sector in Nepal.

The meeting was also attended by NRNA High-Level Committee Joint Secretaries Rabina Thapa and Janaki Gurung, Mrs. Jamuna Ghale, UNDO President Sonam Lama, among others.NRNA-TEAM--(1)-1758860510.jpg
