Nepal Marks the Official Start of the New Year 2083
Kathmandu. The year 2083 of the Vikram Samvat calendar has commenced starting today. On this first day of the new year, Nepalis residing within the country and abroad are celebrating by exchanging joyful greetings with one another.
According to the Vikram Samvat calendar, every new year begins on the 1st of Baisakh, which is today. Since Vikram Samvat is solar-based, the months are also associated with the names of planets and constellations.
Nepal's calendar system is linked to the solar calendar. When the Earth completes one revolution around the sun, it coincides with Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, and the sun moves from Pisces back into Aries. This moment marks the beginning of the new year, also known as the zero degree of the sun.
On the occasion of the new year's commencement, a public holiday has been granted today in government offices, public institutions, and educational facilities across Nepal.
The new year is celebrated as a special festival today by sharing wishes for success, distributing sweets, and organizing cultural events. There is also a tradition of formulating new plans and making virtuous resolutions on this day to achieve success. Similarly, it is a tradition to initiate new endeavors on this day.
