Mithila Pilgrimage in Janakpur Officially Begins
Janakpur – The Mithila pilgrimage, known as a cultural bridge between Nepal and India, officially began today. The procession started from Thera Kachuri in Mithilabihari Municipality, Dhanusha, carrying the palanquins of Lord Ram and Goddess Janaki.
On the first day of the pilgrimage, the participating saints and devotees will rest at Hanumannagar in Janakpurdham and the following morning, after performing prayers, proceed towards Kalyaneshwar in Bihar, India.
The participants will pass through Girijasthan in Phulhar, and then continue through Mattihani, Jaleshwar, Madae, Dhruvakund, Kanchanban, Parbata, Dhanushadham, Aurahi, and Bishaul before reaching Kalyaneshwar. They will return to Janakpurdham on the full moon day.
Every year, devotees cover a total distance of 133 kilometers on foot in 15 days, with 105 km in Nepal and 28 km in India. The pilgrimage, which started today, was inaugurated by Madhesh Province Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav, who lifted the palanquin to mark the occasion.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Yadav said that the Madhesh Province government will actively promote the Ramayana Circuit in the coming days. He also mentioned that he plans to personally visit India to meet with stakeholders for further discussions.
Additionally, he announced the province government's plan to expand Janakpurdham Airport to directly connect Janakpurdham with Ayodhya.
