Mithila Madhyamiki Parikrama Reaches Kanchanban

Janakpur: The 15-day Mithila Madhyamiki Parikrama is scheduled to reach Kanchanban in Mahottari today. Following a rest at Dhruva Kunda on Sunday, pilgrims began their journey toward Kanchanvan early this morning. According to popular belief, after their marriage in the Treta Yuga, Lord Ram and Sita visited various regions of Mithila, and it was in Kanchanvan where they played with colors. In memory of that day, the "Hori Utsav" is celebrated in Kanchanban.

Upon reaching Kanchanban today, pilgrims will play Holi with locals and sadhus. It is traditionally believed that the Holi festival in the Mithilanchal region begins from this day. The parikrama team, which started from Kachuri in Dhanusha, reached Dhruva Kunda on the seventh day and will rest at Kanchanban tonight.

The journey will continue with overnight stays at Parbata in Dhanusha on Tuesday, Dhanushadham on Wednesday, Satoshar on Thursday, and Aurahi on Friday. The pilgrims will arrive in Janakpurdham on the night before the full moon, completing the journey on the morning of the full moon by performing the Antagriha Parikrama of Janakpur and playing Holi.

Regarded as a symbol of religious, cultural, and traditional social harmony between Nepal and India, the Madhyamiki Parikrama includes 15 rest stops—13 in Dhanusha and Mahottari of Nepal and two in India. There is a religious belief that participating in this pilgrimage cleanses sins committed through thought, word, and deed, and fulfills one's wishes.
