Honoring Mothers: Nepal Celebrates Matatirtha Aunsi Today
Kathmandu. Today is Matatirtha Aunsi, also known as the day to look upon the mother's face. Every year, on the day of Baisakh Krishna Aunsi, this festival is celebrated by offering delicious food to mothers with deep faith and devotion.
It is a tradition for children to wake up early in the morning, bathe, dress their mothers in beautiful clothes, and provide them with tasty and nutritious food to receive their blessings. Those who do not have their mothers offer tarpan, pinda, and sidadaan to priests, remembering their departed mothers and the great and difficult sacrifices they made.
In the scriptures, a mother is considered even greater than teachers, scholars, and fathers. This festival is observed as a day to show faith, devotion, respect, and honor toward the mother and to receive her auspicious blessings.
