Speaker Ghimire Holds Farewell Meeting with Chinese Ambassador Chen Song

Kathmandu, December 21: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, held a farewell meeting today with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal, Chen Song. The meeting, held at the Speaker’s office in Singha Durbar, focused on strengthening bilateral relations as well as expanding economic and development cooperation.

Speaker Ghimire expressed gratitude to Ambassador Song, who is returning home after successfully completing his tenure, and highly appreciated his contributions to strengthening Nepal–China bilateral relations, expanding cooperation in economic development, and reinforcing ties between the parliaments of the two countries.

Referring to the year-long celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China, Speaker Ghimire stated that various programs organized by both sides in 2025 have further elevated bilateral relations.

He emphasized that Nepal and China have remained good neighbors, close friends, and reliable partners, and that their relationship has progressed on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, mutual respect, cooperation, and understanding.

Reiterating Nepal’s full commitment to the One-China Policy, Speaker Ghimire assured that Nepal would not allow any activities against China’s interests on its soil.

During the meeting, the Speaker praised the support provided by the Chinese leadership in transforming Nepal from a landlocked country into a land-linked one. He also noted that regular visits and dialogue between parliamentary delegations of Nepal and China have further broadened and strengthened bilateral relations.

Speaker Ghimire expressed Nepal’s gratitude for the development assistance received from the Chinese government and stressed the need for the early implementation of projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) agreement as well as other development assistance projects.

Ambassador Song stated that China accords high priority to Nepal in its diplomatic relations. He mentioned that significant progress had been made in implementing agreements reached during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Nepal in 2020 during his tenure.

Ambassador Song also noted that while people-to-people relations between Nepal and China are strong, economic relations have not developed to the same extent.

Recalling a recent Nepal–China economic cooperation and investment workshop, he informed that many Chinese businesspeople are interested in investing in Nepal.
