‘Echoes of Himalaya’: A Cultural Movement to Preserve Nepali Folk Music

Kathmandu – A special musical event titled ‘Echoes of Himalaya’, aimed at preserving and promoting authentic Nepali folk music, was grandly held on Friday evening at the Nepal Tourism Board, Kathmandu.

Organized by the Kasa Band, the program featured Santosh Sharma, founder of Music Nepal, as the chief guest, and Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board, as the special guest. Distinguished personalities from various sectors were also in notable attendance.

The event showcased captivating performances blending Nepali folk tunes, traditional instruments, ethnic diversity, and cultural heritage, with the aim of introducing Nepali identity to the global stage. Led by singer Ashmita Pariyar, artists such as Anu Gandhari, Mala Waiba, Bishnu Dev, and other women and youth from diverse ethnic backgrounds presented 13 performances reflecting various languages, arts, and cultures while maintaining a balance between tradition and modernity.

With a mission to promote cultural diversity, women’s empowerment, and social unity through music, the program is considered a significant step toward the preservation of Nepali folk music.

According to the organizers, ‘Echoes of Himalaya’ is not just a musical performance but a cultural movement committed to breathing new life into fading traditional tunes, instruments, and folk sensibilities.
