American Philanthropist and Photojournalist Scott MacLennan Passes Away

Kathmandu. American philanthropist and photojournalist Scott MacLennan has passed away. He passed away on Wednesday after a long battle with cancer. Scott, who first visited Nepal as a tourist around 2006, was deeply moved after seeing the poverty of the people in rural areas, the miserable condition of the healthcare sector, and especially the struggles of women.

Following this, he established a non-governmental organization named 'The Mountain Fund' with the aim of providing access to health and education in remote areas of Nepal. Through this organization, he made significant contributions by running health camps, distributing medicines, and constructing health posts in districts like Okhaldhunga and Sindhupalchok. 

During the devastating earthquake of 2072 B.S, Scott and his team worked in remote villages of Dhading and Sindhupalchok to distribute rescue and relief materials. He assisted in building temporary housing for hundreds of families left homeless and helped in treating the injured. As a skilled photographer, Scott introduced Nepal's mountains, culture, and especially various dimensions of Nepali life to the world through his photographs.

By exhibiting his photographs on international platforms, he had been drawing global attention to Nepal's tourism and its social issues. He is known as a true American philanthropist who loved Nepal and Nepalis from his soul. His close well-wishers say that although he was geographically an American citizen, his heart and deeds were always dedicated to the Nepali soil.

Scott's Celebration of Life memorial service program is being held on Thursday. His wife, Sunita Subedi Sharma (MacLennan), informed via a status on Scott's Facebook that they are organizing Scott's Celebration of Life memorial service program at 1:00 PM on Thursday. She also expressed her tributes for Scott's farewell and the beginning of his heavenly journey. Scott's friends and relatives are also offering their condolences on social media.
