Dr. Chhetri Appointed as President of Asia Pacific Geriatrics Network

Dr. Jagadish Kumar Chhetri, a senior geriatrician from Nepal, has been appointed as the new President of the Asia Pacific Geriatrics Network (APGN).

In a transition of regional leadership, APGN selected Dr. Chhetri along with Dr. Ashish Goel from India to lead the network.

The announcement of these appointments was made during the recent World Congress of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG) held in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Dr. Chhetri succeeds Professor Leon Flicker of Australia, who had been leading APGN for a long time. Professor Flicker had held the position for 21 years.

Currently, Dr. Chhetri serves as the Director of the Nepal Geriatrics Center under the Manmohan Memorial Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu. He has been actively involved in research and clinical services in the field of geriatrics (elderly care medicine) for a long time.

He completed his postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University in the United States. Affiliated with various academic and clinical institutions across Asia and Europe, Dr. Chhetri possesses extensive experience in elderly health and research.

Under his leadership, APGN is expected to prioritize the expanding health needs of the growing elderly population and the expansion of geriatric services in the South Asian region.

About APGN: The Asia Pacific Geriatrics Network aims to promote healthy aging, develop geriatric medical services, and expand cooperation among various countries across the region.

The APGN conference held in Nepal in 2025 had also provided further momentum to the development and cooperation of geriatric healthcare services at the regional level. Dr. Chhetri's leadership is expected to make this campaign even more effective.
