Dr. Badri KC Meets Prime Minister Sushila Karki; NRNA Pledges Support for Reconstruction

Kathmandu – The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has pledged to support the government in the reconstruction of physical infrastructure damaged during the Gen-Z movement. A delegation led by NRNA President Dr. Badri KC met with Honorable Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Sunday to express this commitment.
Dr. KC highlighted that non-resident Nepalis around the world are committed to contributing to Nepal’s prosperity in any possible way. He expressed sorrow over the irreparable loss of lives and property during the movement and emphasized that the NRNA is always ready to collaborate with the government for reconstruction and addressing the country’s critical situations.
He stated, “In these complex times, Nepalis living abroad hold immense potential to strengthen and develop the homeland economically. Proper institutional mechanisms to utilize their capital, skills, experience, and knowledge will facilitate Nepal’s path to prosperity.”
In response, Prime Minister Karki urged non-resident Nepalis to assist in national reconstruction. She clarified that the government would primarily rely on contributions from Nepalis and non-resident Nepalis, seeking foreign aid only if domestic support falls short. She also encouraged everyone to contribute to the country’s economic development from their respective positions.
During the meeting, Dr. KC requested that, in line with the NRNA’s motto “Once a Nepali, always a Nepali,” constitutional amendments be made to ensure non-resident Nepalis and their descendants can retain Nepali citizenship, along with guaranteed economic, social, and cultural rights.
He also urged for the provision of voting rights for Nepalis living abroad in the upcoming historic elections. Additionally, he informed the Prime Minister about the 12th General Convention of NRNA, scheduled within the next six months.
Prime Minister Karki confirmed that the government positively received the requests, including voting rights, and assured that arrangements would be made for non-resident Nepalis to vote from abroad in the upcoming elections.
The meeting was attended by NRNA’s female Vice President Rozina Pradhan Rai and Chief Executive Officer Rajendra Kumar Raut.
