‘We Did Not Run Away’: Dhurmus Clarifies Reason Behind His US Visit

Comedian Sitaram Kattel 'Dhurmus', who was recently accused of fleeing to America, has clarified that he and his family did not run away to the US. Dhurmus, who had been absent from Nepali media for the past two weeks, had previously been touring media houses with a somber face, claiming he was being treated unfairly. Amidst this, the news of his sudden departure to America went viral.

Following reports in various media outlets that he had "fled" to America, he wrote a long Facebook status titled 'Bakpatra' (Statement) early this morning, attempting to refute the media accounts. He stated: "My family and I did not flee to America; we came to America after receiving a Green Card."

In his lengthy status, he further explained:

"In a situation where we couldn't even pursue our artistry or find any basis to survive in Nepal, we were in a 'what-won't-a-dying-man-do' state. Three years ago, we applied from Nepal for the US 'Extraordinary Green Card.' This is a permanent residency permit granted to individuals with extraordinary abilities in various fields.

"He says, 'After receiving this card, children of low-income parents are eligible for free treatment through the insurance/Medicaid.' Previously, our second child in Kunjana's womb was aborted due to 'stress'. We did not want to take any risks with our only living child. We decided to apply for the 'Extraordinary' Green Card in America for her health and secure future. Two years after applying, we received the visa last year. However, on the day we received the visa, we couldn't be happy; instead, we cried profusely.

"The reason is, this was not a decision based on our desire. We had become slaves to the circumstances. We came to America last year. To manage the expenses of traveling to and from America, Kunjana sold all the jewelry she owned. To ensure our daughter's life wasn't at risk, we were forced to come to America now, putting our problems aside. I hope everyone will understand this compulsion," he wrote. "We have not fled. There is no doubt that we will return to Nepal after our daughter's treatment is completed."
