Curfew Extended in Birgunj Due to Unrest Following Incident in Dhanusha
The curfew in Birgunj, which became tense following the incident in Dhanusha, has been extended. Considering the security situation, the District Administration Office, Parsa, has extended the curfew today (Tuesday) until 1:00 PM.
Earlier, the administration had imposed a curfew from Monday evening 6:00 PM until Tuesday morning 8:00 AM. However, as the situation had not fully normalized within the stipulated time, the local administration decided to extend the curfew by an additional five hours.
According to Bhola Dahal, Chief District Officer of Parsa, heightened security vigilance is still needed in sensitive areas, which is why the curfew had to be extended to maintain peace and security.
“We are continuously assessing the situation,” said CDO Dahal. “After 1:00 PM, we will review the situation and decide whether to relax or further extend the curfew.”
Which areas are under curfew?
The administration has designated the area from Bypass Road in the east, Sirsiya Bridge in the west, Power House Chowk in the north, and Shankaracharya Gate in the south of Birgunj as the curfew zone. During this period, the general public is completely prohibited from leaving their homes, gathering, holding rallies, or staging protests.
Tight Security Arrangements
Following the tension, there is a heavy presence of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force in the main intersections, markets, and sensitive areas of Birgunj. Security personnel are patrolling continuously.
The administration has allowed essential services such as ambulances, fire brigades, healthcare workers, and media personnel to move based on identification cards. The District Administration Office has urged both communities to exercise restraint and maintain social harmony.
