Advertisement Board Urges Ethical Campaigning for Upcoming Election

Kathmandu. The Advertisement Board has stated that it is the shared responsibility of all political parties, candidates, and supporters to make the upcoming House of Representatives election, scheduled for March 5 (Falgun 21), clean, dignified, and credible.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the Board noted that it has received complaints regarding increasing activities on social media and other platforms aimed at directly or indirectly belittling parties, candidates, or leaders, as well as spreading misinformation.

The Board clarified that it is closely monitoring election-related advertisements, noting that an agreement has already been reached between the Election Commission and the Advertisement Board to monitor, regulate, investigate, and take action against advertisements during the election period.

The statement emphasized that strict surveillance is being maintained against materials that mislead voters, belittle individuals, or use deceptive audio and audiovisual content.

The Advertisement Board specifically urged all parties not to publish or broadcast deepfake materials created using artificial intelligence, promotions through fake IDs, or false and unverified information. Additionally, the public has been requested not to like, share, comment on, or tag misleading content on social media.

The Board has asked the public to report any misleading advertisements or promotional materials found on any platform. It also warned that activities violating the Advertisement (Regulation) Act, 2076, the Regulation, 2077, and the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, will face legal action.
