Education Minister Pun to Incorporate Meditation and Yoga into Curriculum

Education Minister Mahabir Pun has stated that preparations are underway to include meditation and yoga in the curriculum, not just to observe them, but to make them practical.

Speaking at the second World Meditation Day and 11th National Yoga Day 2082 Main Celebration Committee meeting on Tuesday, he informed that discussions are being held to incorporate meditation and yoga into the school curriculum.

He said, "The point is how to make the practice of meditation and yoga practical. There have been two or three rounds of discussions on how to include them in the curriculum. Additionally, this cannot be achieved just by teaching a lesson in the classroom. Meditation and yoga should be listed in the extracurricular activities on Friday and taught practically."

He also pointed out that teachers do not have the knowledge to consistently allocate time for meditation and yoga every Friday in schools, and suggested that training should be arranged for teachers.

"In many schools, teachers themselves do not know how to practice meditation. Teachers should also be encouraged to sit for one minute of meditation and teach it before starting class. For this, organizations working in this sector should arrange training for teachers, and the Ministry of Education will also cooperate in this," he said.

Similarly, he mentioned that moral education should not just be read in the textbook but should be implemented in practice.

"Moral education is not about becoming moral just by reading a book. It is something to be implemented in behavior. This should be done from a young age.

If children can be made moral from nursery class up to classes 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, they will become moral, but they won't become moral by teaching moral education in classes 9 or 10 when they are older," he stated.
