Woman Arrested with 528 Grams of Marijuana in Birtamod, Jhapa
Jhapa: Police have arrested a woman with 528 grams of the narcotic drug marijuana from Syaldangi, Birtamod Municipality-6, Jhapa. According to the District Police Office Jhapa, the arrested individual has been identified as 36-year-old Gita Mahato, a resident of Birtamod-6, Syaldangi.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ranjan Awale, spokesperson for the District Police Office Jhapa, a police team searched Mahato's house on Wednesday night based on confidential information that marijuana was being sold and distributed from her home.
A joint police team comprising Police Constable Manish Dhimal from the Area Police Office Anarmani and Police Assistant Inspector Nabaraj Acharya from the Temporary Police Post Buttabari searched Mahato's home at around 8:50 PM. During the search, they recovered a substance resembling marijuana hidden inside a room.
According to the police, when weighed on a certified digital scale, the recovered substance measured 609 grams including the plastic packaging, and 528 grams excluding the plastic.
Spokesperson Awale stated that Mahato was taken into custody along with the seized narcotics and brought to the Area Police Office Anarmani, where further investigation into the incident is underway. Police have recently stepped up surveillance and enforcement actions to control the illegal trade and smuggling of narcotics across various locations in Jhapa.
