Water flow in the Saptakoshi River has increased due to continuous rainfall in the eastern hilly districts.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Chandra Bahadur Khadka of Sunsari, a measurement taken at 8:15 PM on Sunday recorded the water discharge through the Koshi Barrage at 220,000 cusecs (cubic feet per second).

DSP Khadka stated that following the rise in water volume, 27 out of the 56 total floodgates—comprising 52 main gates and 4 canal gates at the Koshi Barrage—have been opened.

With the increased flow, red lights have been turned on and red flags hoisted at the barrage to signal danger.

Police have urged residents living near the Koshi River to remain alert as the water levels continue to climb. The District Police Office, Sunsari, stated that they are continuously monitoring the river's water level and flow conditions.

He added that local authorities have appealed to residents in vulnerable areas along the Koshi River to take necessary precautions.
