United States Welcomes Appointment of Sushila Karki as Nepal’s Interim Prime Minister
Kathmandu, 14 September: The United States has welcomed the appointment of Sushila Karki as the Prime Minister of Nepal’s interim government.
In a statement issued today, the U.S. Embassy in Nepal expressed its support for a peaceful resolution following last week’s unfortunate events. The embassy praised President Ramchandra Paudel and young leaders for their commitment to a democratic solution and emphasized that the U.S. stands in solidarity with Nepal during this difficult time.
“We commend the Nepalese Army and Chief of Army Ashok Raj Sigdel for playing a key role in facilitating a smooth transition and helping to restore a peaceful civilian government and order,” the statement read.
The United States also expressed readiness to cooperate with Nepal as the interim government prepares for new elections in the coming months. President Paudel appointed former Chief Justice Karki as the Prime Minister of the interim government on 12 September.
