Tragic Landslide Incident Claims Life of Toddler; Parents Injured

A three-year-old child died and his parents were injured when a landslide occurred around 4:00 AM on Saturday in Pulu Bazaar, Ward No. 5 of Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality, Mugu.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rabiraj Thapaliya of the District Police Office, Mugu, a landslide involving boulders fell from above while 32-year-old Jagnath Baduwal, his 27-year-old wife Srijana Baduwal, and their three-year-old son Ramesh Baduwal—residents of Tirpa, Chhayanath Rara Municipality–13—were sleeping. The family was renting and running a hotel business in the home of Pema Lama at Pulu Bazaar.

Jagnath and Srijana sustained minor injuries in the incident. Police reported that they walked to the Pulu Health Post on their own for treatment, and their condition is normal.

Three-year-old Ramesh Baduwal, who was trapped in the landslide, was rescued by local residents alongside a five-member police team commanded by Sub-Inspector of Police Bir Bahadur Chand from the Dolphu Pulu Police Post. He was rushed to the Pulu Health Post for medical care, where his initial condition was reported as moderate.

However, doctors confirmed his death during treatment at around 5:45 AM.

Police reported that the house where the family was staying has been completely destroyed by the landslide. Additionally, eight other nearby houses are at high risk. Residents from the vulnerable homes have been moved to safer locations.

Most of those displaced are staying with relatives in Pulu Bazaar, while seven to eight individuals have been provided temporary shelter at the Pulu Health Post.

The incident site lies approximately 300 meters west of the Dolphu Pulu Police Post. Police stated that further details regarding the incident are currently being collected.
