National Federation of the Disabled Nepal Conducts Social Audit
The National Federation of the Disabled Nepal has successfully conducted a social audit. The federation organized the annual social audit in Kathmandu to enhance social accountability.
The social audit program was chaired by the federation’s Federal President, Debidatt Acharya. The annual report of the federation was facilitated by General Secretary Sugam Bhattarai, and the social audit report was presented by social auditor Namaskar Shah.
Project Officer Roshan Nyaupane provided information about the projects being implemented by the federation. Former federation President Dr. Birendra Raj Pokhrel, Chief Administrator Laya Prasad Upreti, and others were also present. Various stakeholders shared their views during the program.
Kaladhar Bhandari, General Secretary of the Nepal Blind Association, emphasized that the federation should support new organizations in exploring sustainable sources for income generation and employment for persons with disabilities. He also demanded that disability and inclusion issues be highlighted during elections.
Disability rights activist Giridhari Subedi mentioned that social security allowances for persons with disabilities have been made possible through the federation’s efforts.
Laxmi Nepal from Access Planet stressed the need to raise voices for issues concerning girls with disabilities. Naramaya Limbu from Tehrathum stated that disability identification cards should be of good quality. Former federation President Deepak Koirala suggested that the federation’s work should be further promoted and publicized.
Zen Z representative Madan Rokaya recommended forming a Youth Advisory Council within the federation. Disability rights activist Nabina Gyawali emphasized that the federation should also incorporate entrepreneurship.
Participants such as Susmira Aryal and Ramchandra Gaire from the Federation of Youth with Hearing Impairment also shared their views.
