Armed Robbery at Nepal SBI Bank Branch in Sindhuli

Ramechhap — An armed robbery has taken place at the Nepal SBI Bank branch located in Hayutar, Ghyanglekh Rural Municipality of Sindhuli district. According to police, a group of robbers arrived on Tuesday evening carrying weapons, took the bank’s security guard and staff under control, and fled after looting approximately NPR 30.7 million.

Preliminary investigations suggest that around five masked robbers arrived at the bank in a Tata Sumo coming from the Banepa direction. The police stated that the robbers tied up the security guard and injured him by attacking with a khukuri while threatening with a pistol.

After the robbery, through a joint effort of local residents and the police, the Tata Sumo used in the robbery—bearing the embossed number plate Ba 3 Da 0398—and its driver were successfully apprehended, informed Roshan Bhlon, Ward Chairperson of Ghyanglekh Rural Municipality–2. The vehicle was seized from the Tuni Bhanjyang area, which falls under Ward No. 1 of the rural municipality.

According to Ward Chairperson Bhlon, two sacks of the looted cash have been recovered. However, the exact amount recovered has not yet been confirmed. The seized vehicle and the recovered cash have been kept at the Area Police Office, Bastipur.

Other individuals involved in the robbery have fled towards the forest, and the police stated that an extensive search operation is underway to locate them. Police further informed that investigations into the incident—where armed robbers entered the bank, tied the hands and feet of staff and the security guard, and carried out the robbery—are ongoing.
