Rasuwa Bhotekoshi Flood: 1,385 bodies found, over 4,000 still missing

Kathmandu. As search and rescue operations continue following the flood in Rasuwa's Bhotekoshi River, 1,385 bodies and human remains have been recovered so far. Nepal Police released the updated status regarding the search, rescue, and management operations.

According to the updated police records, among the bodies recovered, 542 are male and 338 are female, while 505 are partial human remains. Out of the recovered bodies, 103 have been identified and handed over to their relatives, while 1,148 bodies have been safely buried underground. Additionally, details of 1,326 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the website. For identification purposes, a total of 2,998 DNA samples have been collected (1,286 from the deceased and 1,712 from relatives).

A total of 4,089 people remain missing in the flood. The missing individuals include 3,479 Nepali citizens (2,907 male and 572 female) and 610 foreign nationals (272 male, 328 female, and 10 others).

Under emergency rescue efforts, a total of 9,287 injured and affected people have been rescued so far. This includes 6,407 males, 2,830 females, and 50 unidentified individuals. Among those rescued, 3,176 people are currently staying in various holding centers.

A force of 7,875 police personnel has been deployed for search and rescue operations in the affected areas. Due to the flood, 25 police personnel remain out of contact, while 65 police officers have been directly affected.

Furthermore, Nepal Police reported that 166 awareness programs have been conducted in the affected areas to enhance disaster risk reduction and awareness, with the participation of 45,238 local residents.
