Former Minister Yadav Stresses Need to Protect and Promote Traditional Kusti (Wrestling), Encourage Local Athletes
Birgunj (Parsa), October 28 : Pradip Yadav, Deputy General Secretary of the Janata Samajwadi Party and former minister, has highlighted the urgent need for concrete action from all levels to preserve and promote traditional sports, particularly Kusti (wrestling).
Inaugurating the ‘Birat Kusti Competition-2082’ organized in Inarwa, Birgunj Metropolitan City-16, on the occasion of Shubha Deepawali and Chhath festivals, he expressed confidence that such events significantly contribute to safeguarding local identity and tradition in the current environment where Nepal's indigenous sports culture is fading.
"Kusti is a symbol of our history, culture, and physical capability," he stated. "It instills discipline, courage, self-confidence, and sportsmanship in our youth. Protecting such sports means preserving our fundamental culture and identity."
Former Minister Yadav emphasized the necessity of cooperation among local government, elected representatives, sports organizations, and the community. "If we can provide proper opportunities, training, and encouragement to local athletes, Nepal can achieve remarkable success in Kusti even at the international level," he added.
He also committed to initiating efforts to develop Birgunj as a provincial and national-level sports hub in the future.
The event saw athletes from various locations competing, cheered on enthusiastically by a large crowd of spectators. The Virat Kusti Competition, organized by the Inarwa Mahabir Mandir Protection Society, Parsa, aims to attract local youth towards sports and create a sense of unity and festivity in the community.
The program was well-attended by local social workers, representatives of political parties, sports enthusiasts, and members of various communities.
