Permanent Rehabilitation of Flood Victims is Government's Priority: Minister Badi

Kathmandu: Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities, and Social Security, Sita Badi, stated that the government has prioritized the safety, protection, and permanent rehabilitation of affected citizens during an on-site inspection of various flood-affected areas in Nuwakot.

Minister Badi inspected United Basic School located in Bidur-4 and the holding center operating in Lower Pipaltar, gathering details on the housing, health, food, and basic service conditions of the affected citizens. She also met directly with the impacted residents to understand their immediate needs and challenges.

During the inspection, Minister Badi emphasized the need to ensure special safety and protection for women, children, senior citizens, and postpartum mothers. Coordination was made with relevant agencies to set up separate safe holding centers for affected women, deploy female police officers as needed, and streamline safe relocation arrangements.

Minister Badi highlighted that top priority must be given to identifying children who are at risk or separated from their guardians due to the disaster, ensuring their safe protection, family reunification, and providing necessary psychosocial support. Stressing that children should not be kept alongside adults in unsafe environments, she underscored the need for secure management based on their conditions and protection requirements.

During her visit, she also inspected the Prison Office, Juvenile Correction Home, and the Ayurveda and Alternative Medicine Hospital to assess security, health conditions, and service delivery.

Minister Badi assured that alongside providing immediate relief and safe shelter to the affected citizens, the government is moving forward with plans for their long-term permanent rehabilitation in safer locations.
