Paras Bam Charged with Indecent Behavior for Assaulting Elderly Man
Paras Bam, who was arrested on charges of assaulting an elderly man on the street, is facing a case of indecent behavior. According to Pawan Bhattarai, spokesperson for the District Police Range Kathmandu, an investigation is underway after obtaining a seven-day remand from the District Administration Office.
A video of a middle-aged man punching an intoxicated elderly man had gone viral on social media. The Valley Traffic Police Office arrested Bam, who was involved in the incident, last Tuesday and handed him over to the police. He is currently in the custody of the District Police Range Kathmandu.
In accordance with legal provisions, the Range is conducting the investigation after receiving a seven-day extension from the District Administration Office. According to spokesperson Bhattarai, Bam's statement is being recorded at the Government Attorney's Office today.
Section 118 of Nepal's Muluki Criminal Code Act, 2074, contains legal provisions regarding indecent behavior. According to this section, if any person abuses, assaults, or behaves obscenely toward someone in a public place, it is considered indecent behavior.
If proven guilty of such an act, the punishment can be up to one year of imprisonment or a fine of up to 10,000 rupees, or both. If this behavior is related to sexual harassment, more severe punishment can be imposed under Section 222.
