Okely Releases New Song ‘Swarga Mero’, Features Himself in the Music Video

Singer Anis ‘Okely’ Sapkota, who gained popularity in the 1990s with songs like “Meri Okely…” and “Jhyabata Her…”, is not a new name for Nepali music lovers. The Nepali-American singer, composer, and music producer Okely has been contributing to the South Asian and global music scene for over two decades. Professionally, he is known by the name ‘Okely’.

On the occasion of his birthday, the widely loved singer among both Nepali audiences and the global Nepali diaspora has released a new song titled “Swarga Mero” (My Heaven). Though based in the U.S., he has continued to create and promote Nepali music. In this song, he has provided the lyrics, music, and vocals himself.

"I’ve continued singing for my Nepali brothers and sisters even from America. I never gave it up and have kept it going. This time, appearing in the video myself in addition to creating the song was a different experience for me," he said.

It took him nearly three months to complete the song. Falling under the pop/soft rock genre, the song revolves around the theme of love. Okely has also appeared in the music video, alongside model Erisha Shrestha. The video was created by singer and composer James Pradhan, who also handled the cinematography, editing, color grading, and direction. Filmed in the scenic beauty of America, Okely is confident the video will captivate viewers.

“A long-held wish to create a song about love has been fulfilled this time. The song explores an imaginary world of love. In my previous songs, other models have featured, but this time, director James dai suggested I act in the video myself to match the emotion of the song. I believe I’ve been able to reflect its essence,” said Okely.

Recently, Okely released an album titled “Rhythm Kathmandu”, but this time he has come out with a single track. He said releasing a single is easier in terms of promotion and production. The song was arranged by Generics and has been published via Anis Okely's official YouTube channel.

“I released the song through my own YouTube channel so that all my songs can be found in one place. Those discovering me for the first time will also learn something about my musical journey through this song,” said Okely.

Okely began his musical journey in the 1990s as a founding member of the band Okely in Nepal. He has made a name for himself among Nepali audiences worldwide through songs like “Gulabi Jado”, “Juneli Raat”, “Timro Bani Ba Ho”, “Timi Nai Ramri”, and more recently, “Simala Bhuwa”.

Currently residing in Sacramento, California, he is known for blending modern Nepali pop with emotionally rich storytelling. In recognition of his contributions to music and culture, he received the Youth Achievement Award presented by Nobel Prize winner Dr. Charles Townes. With a musical journey spanning over two decades, he continues to be actively involved in new creations and productions that have established his unique identity.
