Nazir Hussain Wins Hearts with Powerful Performance in ‘Gunyo Cholo: The Dress’; Song Receives Overwhelming Praise

Kathmandu — The song from the movie ‘Gunyo Cholo: The Dress’ has been receiving positive feedback from the audience. At a time when people are quick to criticize and find faults over small issues, this song has managed to capture viewers' admiration.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with nearly 100% favorable reactions. While the lyrics of the song ‘Ma Phool Hu Ki Kaanda’ (Am I a Flower or a Thorn) have received praise, the most attention has gone to actor Nazir Hussain, who performs a powerful dance in the video.

Nazir's acting skills and talent are being appreciated from all corners. Viewers on YouTube have commented that he deserves a film that truly showcases his abilities. Many believe he needs a project similar to Sarangi by Purna Bahadur, one that can highlight his range and introduce his talent to a broader audience.

In the film, Nazir plays the role of a transgender woman. His transformation is so convincing that viewers questioned whether it was really him, simply based on his costume and appearance. Comments like “Wow, what a performance!” have poured in.

The song ‘Ma Phool Hu Ki Kaanda’ is written by Lekhu Sahayatri, sung by Manisha Pokharel, with music also composed by Sahayatri.

‘Gunyo Cholo: The Dress’ is set to release on Bhadra 13 (August 29). Directed by Samundra Bhatt, the film tells the story of a gender minority trans woman.

Nazir Hussain plays the lead role as a trans woman. The film also stars Sanchita Luintel, Sushil Sitoula, Rajkumar Ghosh, Shishir Rana, Anupam Shrestha, and Bishal Pahari in significant roles.

This is Nepal’s first full-length film centered on a transgender narrative. The movie's international distribution rights have been acquired by Buffalo 8, a U.S.-based company.

All post-production work, including editing, color grading, sound mixing, design, and background music, was completed abroad using Hollywood-level techniques.

Hollywood artist Lisa Gerrard has lent her voice to the film, and the entire background score has been composed by Marcelo de Francisci. Lisa had previously sung for the Hollywood film Gladiator 2.

Gunyo Cholo: The Dress is a collaborative production between a Nepali film production house and a Hollywood production house. The film is produced by Aakash Budhathoki and V-Bhanse Janubon. Jeffrey J. Wain and Steve Johnston are the executive producers, and Anupam Shrestha is the associate producer.

Cinematography is by Alok Shukla, with lyrics also by Lekhu Sahayatri. The film was selected for screening at the prestigious Tasveer Film Market in the United States.
