National Human Rights Commission Expresses Concern Over Arrest of Durga Prasai

Kathmandu. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has expressed concern over the arrest of medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai.

On Tuesday, the Commission issued a statement instructing the government to take the matter seriously, stating that arresting individuals solely for their thoughts and expressions does not ensure the respect and protection of human rights.

The statement reads, "The Commission instructs the Government of Nepal to take this seriously, as the arrest of any person solely due to their thoughts and expressions does not ensure the respect and protection of human rights."

"Furthermore, the Commission urges political parties, activists, and the general public not to engage in expressions and activities that could adversely affect the country's peace and security," the statement adds.

The Commission has also monitored the incident related to Prasai's arrest. Today, a team from the Commission visited the District Police Range, Bhadrakali, Kathmandu, and met with Prasai and the concerned police officers to gather information.

Prasai was arrested from his residence in Sano Thimi, Bhaktapur, at 12:30 AM tonight and is currently being held in the custody of the Kathmandu District Police Range.
