National Bhakka Day Celebrated in Kathmandu
Kathmandu – The Rajbanshi community and other indigenous communities residing in the eastern Terai have been celebrating National Bhakka Day every year on Poush 29. This year as well, the day is being observed with various promotional programs across different locations.
Previously, the tradition of eating Bhakka was limited to the Koch Rajbanshi community, but it has recently become popular among other ethnic groups as well. As more communities began to enjoy Bhakka, Poush 29 was designated as National Bhakka Day to preserve and promote this cultural delicacy.
Bhakka is a traditional dish of the Rajbanshi community, mostly consumed during the winter season. It is prepared by steaming rice flour dough and is usually eaten with chatney (Pickle).Considered not only delicious but also healthy, Bhakka is recognized as a significant dish of eastern Nepal.
There is a growing need to preserve the authenticity, nutritional value, and cultural identity of Bhakka while establishing its importance among the younger generation.
