Meditation is Nepal’s Identity: Education Minister Mahabir Pun

Kathmandu: Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Mahabir Pun has stated that Nepal is the birthplace of meditation and that the nation should take immense pride in this fact.

Addressing the main ceremony of the Second World Meditation Day 2025 on Sunday, he emphasized the need to promote and spread the practice of meditation globally.

Minister Pun highlighted that meditation is an effective medium to establish Nepal’s identity on the world stage. "Nepal is the place where meditation originated. We must be proud of this and spread it across the world. Meditation is a way to make Nepal known to the global community. By doing so, we can not only promote Nepal but also invite a large number of foreign tourists, thereby boosting the country’s tourism industry," he said.

Acknowledging that Nepal has lagged behind in modern science and technology, he noted that this gap has forced the country to rely heavily on foreign products. He remarked, "We have fallen far behind in modern science and technology. Due to our inability to develop these fields, we have become entirely dependent on foreign nations. Importing goods made abroad hinders our ability to strengthen our economy."

According to Minister Pun, since Nepal is the spiritual home of meditation and yoga, the economy can be improved by linking these practices with tourism. "If we can expand tourism through the promotion of meditation and yoga, we can build a robust economy for Nepal," he stated.
