Limbu-language Film ‘Che’ to Have a Special Screening in Hong Kong; International Screening Dates Also Announced

Kathmandu – The Limbu-language film ‘Che’ is set to have a special screening in Hong Kong. The screening will take place on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 6 PM at the Yau Ma Tei Community Hall.

This announcement was made during a press conference held on Tuesday at the Purweli Homestay hall in Koteshwor, Kathmandu. Speaking at the event, Bhavendra Thamsuhang, Senior Vice President of Yakthung Munchiyat Chok Sayang Hong Kong, informed that his organization is hosting the screening.

According to Thamsuhang, Yakthung Munchiyat Chok Sayang has been organizing various programs aimed at honoring Limbu artists and supporting social welfare initiatives such as providing social security allowances.

Alongside this, the organizers also announced additional international screening dates. The film will be screened in Seoul, South Korea, on October 4, 2025, and in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, on November 27, 2025.

About the Film ‘Che’

Che explores the cultural and existential crisis faced by the Limbu community. The film tells a story about how the community is gradually "disappearing" — both physically and spiritually. It highlights the conflict between preserving cultural heritage and the forces of modern development.

In particular, the film depicts the issue of sacred burial grounds of the Yakthung indigenous community being destroyed in the name of development, leading to a crisis of identity and loss within the community.

The film features performances from Sagar Kerung, Bimala Khajum, Yaseli Yonghang, Nisham Tumbapo, Bhavendra Thamsuhang, Ratna Lingden Lawati, Narendraraj Kerung, Purna Seling, Pramita Limbu, Yalambar Khambu, Abhishek Kerung, Raju Ghimire, Nunam Kerung, and Karnahang Subba Tamling.

Produced under the banner of Yakthung Films, the movie is written, directed, and produced by Sagar Kerung. The cinematography is done by Yubaraj Rai, with Indu Fombo and Sabu Limbu Thamsuhang serving as producers.
