Kerung Border in Rasuwa to Close for 15 Days
The Kerung border crossing connecting Nepal and China in Rasuwa is set to close for 15 days. The border will remain shut from February 15 to March 1 (Falgun 3 to Falgun 17).
It has been reported that the closure is due to the Tibetan New Year celebrations in China. According to the Kerung Border Trade Association, information regarding the closure has been received from the Chinese side.
The House of Representatives election is scheduled for March 5 (Falgun 21). Typically, Nepal closes its borders 72 hours prior to an election.
There is a growing risk of a shortage of goods imported from China to Nepal due to the border being closed for more than 15 days.
However, Department of Customs officials claim they are unaware of the border closure. Thakur Gautam, Information Officer at the Rasuwa Customs Office, stated that while there have been talks about China closing the border, no official information regarding the exact dates has been received as of today.
