Janarasi Devi Receives Citizenship at the Age of 64

Janarasi Devi Paswan, a resident of Madhubani in Ward No. 12 of Godaita Municipality, Sarlahi, has finally received her Nepali citizenship at the age of 64.

Janarasi obtained her citizenship certificate from the District Administration Office, Sarlahi, on Tuesday, following six months of continuous effort by Ward Chairman Keshav Kumar.

Due to the lack of citizenship, Janarasi Devi had been facing difficulties in her daily administrative work. Without a legal identity, she also struggled to access various services and facilities provided by the state.

Janarasi’s husband has already passed away, and she has two sons and a daughter.

According to Ward Chairman Keshav Kumar, continuous efforts were made for about six months—including collecting necessary documents, coordinating with relevant authorities, and completing legal procedures—to help her obtain citizenship.

Following these efforts, she ultimately received her Nepali citizenship certificate. Ward Chairman Keshav Kumar claimed that his goal of ensuring no citizen remains without citizenship in his ward during his tenure has been fulfilled.

Chairman Kumar stated that he has been directly facilitating and guiding ward residents—who lack awareness about government procedures and legal provisions or face difficulties completing the necessary steps—to the concerned authorities to complete the entire process of acquiring citizenship.

Meanwhile, in the western region of Sarlahi, including local levels like Dhankaul, Ramnagar, and Balara, several elderly citizens are still found to be living without citizenship.
