World Celebrates International Friendship Day Today

Kathmandu | Today, International Friendship Day is being celebrated all across the world. The United Nations officially recognized July 30 as International Friendship Day. Most countries, including Nepal, celebrate this day as International Friendship Day.

Friendship Day was initiated by Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards. He first came up with the idea of celebrating Friendship Day on August 2, 1930. However, it faced criticism as a concept introduced by the greeting card industry for commercial benefit. On July 30, 1958, Friendship Day was celebrated for the first time in Uruguay.

An organization named the World Friendship Crusade proposed celebrating Friendship Day on that date. Later, in 2011, the United Nations General Assembly officially declared July 30 as Friendship Day.
