International Anti-Corruption Day: Uniting Youth for a Transparent Future

Kathmandu. International Anti-Corruption Day is celebrated worldwide every year on December 9. The day is observed to amplify the voice against corruption. The United Nations General Assembly recognized this day as the Anti-Corruption Day in 2003. Nepal ratified the Convention in 2011.

This year's slogan for the International Anti-Corruption Day is "Uniting the world against corruption with youth: Building tomorrow's integrity." This year's theme inspires youth to play a leading role and enhance the values of transparency, accountability, and integrity in society. 

This year's slogan clearly states that the active participation of youth in the anti-corruption campaign will play a significant role in securing a safe and just future.

According to the Constitution of Nepal 2072, Article 238 under Part 21 provides for the formation of the Commission, while Article 239 stipulates the functions, duties, and powers of the Commission. 

As per the constitutional provision, if a complaint is filed alleging that a person holding a public office has committed corruption and abused authority, or if it is found during the course of investigation, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) may investigate or cause to be investigated in accordance with the law.
