Heavy Snowfall in Bajura Brings Mixed Relief and Challenges

Bajura. Snowfall has occurred again in Bajura. For the first time this winter, rain and snowfall were recorded last Friday, followed by another round of rain and heavy snowfall starting Tuesday night. Following a continuous change in weather, rain and snow began falling in the high Himalayan and hilly regions on Tuesday night. Farmers in the area are pleased with the return of the rain and snow.

Rain and snowfall continue in the high Himalayan and hilly parts of all nine local levels of Bajura. Life has become quite difficult due to the heavy snow. With the increase in cold following the snowfall, the elderly, children, and people with chronic illnesses have been most affected. High hills and mountains such as Badimalika, Porkhelekh, Kalajagra, Budhinanda, Ranisain, and Sunanda have turned white with thick snow.

According to the Agriculture Knowledge Center Bajura, the rain and snowfall have provided relief to wheat crops that were starting to dry up. Jasiram Sahani, the head of the Agriculture Knowledge Center Bajura, stated that the snowfall has benefited winter crops significantly. He noted that the rain and snow would help the drying wheat crops thrive. He added that it would also facilitate the rice crops to be planted in Chaitra.

The high Himalayan and hilly areas of Bajura are currently draped in a blanket of snow. Due to the extreme rain and snow, wildlife has moved down to lower altitudes to escape the cold. The Division Forest Office Bajura has noted that the migration of wildlife toward the lower valleys increases the risk of poaching. They have issued an appeal to refrain from the illegal hunting of wildlife.

Heavy snowfall has obstructed the Martadi-Kolti road section in Bajura. Vehicles operating on this route have come to a standstill due to the excessive accumulation of snow in Porkhelekh. The rain and snowfall that began last night are still continuing. Electricity and telephone services have also been affected by the snowfall.
